The COF IC is stands for Chip on film. COF IC is a one type of Flexible Film or we can say flexible plastic material. There is also conductive track printed on the Flexible Film.
COF is made with Polyimide Material. This Chip on film pay very crucial role for any LCD, LED, QLED and OLED display.
Also we can say COF IC is as Gate IC or gate COF. Because it made up with flip flop and dubiously flip-flop is made up with gate Like NOR Gate NAND gate NOT Gate etc.
Also COF IC contain some Point which is known as test points. Generally this test point is used for voltage and some signal measurement.
Most Common Voltage Test point of COF IC is:
- VGH- Gate High Voltage
- VGL- Gate Low Voltage
- VDD
- 3.3v
- GND- Ground
Most Common Signal Test point of COF IC is:
- OE
- CPV
- STV
- XAO
There is mainly part use in any display like T-con Board, Scalar PCB, COF IC LVDS Cable and panel glass itself which is also known as ITO/TFT.
So here COF IC is work as bridge in between Scalar PCB and Panel TFT. COF IC used to operate TFT (Also known as Thin Film Transistor) according to gate signal. Which is coming from Scalar board.
Here one thing we have to note down is this one TFT is one sub pixel. One pixel have total three sub pixel Red Green Blue also in some 4K QLED Panel fourth is White color pixel. So here COF IC manly provide two voltage to the TFT VGH and VGL. VGH is also known as Gate High Voltage. And VGL known as Gate Low Voltage. One TFT have total three terminal for proper operation which is Gate Drain and Source.
Also COF IC have passive component around ‘Chip On Film’ or on the Flexible Film. This type of COF is also known as ‘Chip On Flex’. Generally this type of COF is use for mobile device or for very small screen.
In term of LCD/LED TV This COF is use as X COF or sometimes as Y COF. X COF also known as Source COF. And Y COF is also known as Side/Gate COF.
